One day after the unclear death of the Punjabi actor and the professional bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman, a medical statement from Fortis Escorts Hospital, Amritsar, has clarified the circumstances surrounding his passing. The 42-year-old, known for his roles in Punjabi and Bollywood movies, died on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest after a routine surgical procedure.
Hospital questions statement
In an official statement released on Friday, the hospital said: “Varinder Singh Ghuman was evaluated in October 6 for pain and limited movement in his right axis. After a clinical assessment, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with Biceps Tenodes was recommended. The patient had no known comorbidies. “The statement further stated that Ghuman “underwent the planned procedure during general anesthesia on October 9. The operation was inevitable and completed around 15.00 with stable vital parameters throughout.”
The routine procedure became tragic
However, complications arose shortly after the operation. “About 15:35, the patient developed a sudden cardiac rhythmia. Anesthesia, cardiology, heart anesthesia and critical care team immediately began advanced resuscitation measures. Despite continued and coordinated efforts, the patient could not be revived and declared dead at 17:36,” stood the statement.The hospital added, “Fortis Hospital deeply regrets this unfortunate loss and extends cordial condolences to the mourned family and his many fans.”Ghuman’s manager, Yadvinder Singh, told the media that the actor had originally visited the hospital for shoulder pain, which led to the operation. The procedure was considered routine and Ghuman was expected to be released the same day.
Inheritance from Punjabs ‘Ironman’
A native in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Varinder Singh Ghuman was hailed as the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder. He won Mr. India 2009 and was the runner in Mr. Asia and represented India at international bodybuilding competitions and earned global recognition.Ghuman later dared into cinema and debuted with Kabaddi again (2012), followed by performances in Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans (2014), Marjaavaan (2019), and Salman KhanTiger 3 (2023).Ghuman, known for his humility, discipline and advocate for fitness and vegetarianism, was happy to be called Punjab’s Ironman. His passing has left a void in both fitness and movie brothers. Ghuman’s last rituals were performed on the Model Town crematorium in Jalandhar, where family, friends and fans invite him an emotional goodbye.
