Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday supported the decision to hand over Captain Odi India to Shubman Gill, describing it as “fair call and not the worst decision.“Ganguly suggests that the move may be made to consider the age and the fact that the ODI World Cup is two more years. “I think it’s done by consulting Rohit, from the outside … I don’t know what’s inside,” Ganguly said at a new event. “Somewhere below the line, I feel that it is a fair call. Rohit can keep playing and in the meantime, you continue to sweep the young captain. So, I really don’t see the problem.” India will play three Odi in Australia starting October 19, followed by a five -game T20I series from October 29. The decision by the Ajit election committee also considers the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, when Rohit will exceed 40 and Virat Kohli 38. “In the last two years, he (Rohit) has won the T20 World Cup. He has won the Champion trophy. So, performance is not a problem with Rohit Sharma“Ganguly said, as PTI quoted.” But when they left for 2027 in South Africa, he would be 40 years old. And that’s a huge amount of sports. And he has played for so long. So, I don’t think anyone is sure whether Rohit would actually play when he was 40. So, I don’t think it’s the worst decision. It happens to everyone. “ In the future of Rohit and Kohli in the national establishment, Ganguly emphasized the importance of domestic cricket. “Yes, 40 is a lot of age, it depends on him – how much he is, how much cricket he plays and how much he runs … whatever opportunity they get, they have to play domestic cricket. Because cricket is a sport where you have to keep playing – otherwise you lose touch and shape and contacts. “ Moving to Gill, Ganguly praised the 26-year-old performance during the five Indian test series in England, where he scored 754 for four centuries, over 752 graham gooch in 1990 and Sunil Gavaskar 732 as captain of West Hindia in 1978-79.

Do you support the decision to appoint Shubman Gill as Captain Odi?
“For a visit to England, I think he’s excellent, I have seen a five -test series. The way he plays and the way he leads the team is incredible. That’s why he has become the captain of the ODI team for the future.
