The World World Athletics Championship in New Delhi witnessed an unfortunate incident on Friday when a Kenya coach was bitten by a wild dog outside the competition arena at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The coach, identified as Dennis, interacted with one of his athletes near the call room around 10am at the time of the incident. According to Kenya Team Officer Joel Atuti, the attack arrived. “Our coach Mr Dennis was talking to an athlete near the call room, and the wild dog came out of it and bit it,” Atuti told PTI. Blood was seen melting from the coach’s feet before the medical staff placed in the place intervened. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where he received treatment, including injections. “He, on the other hand, has no problem as it is now, he will take some medicine,” Atuti added. The call room, where the athlete gathered before their event, is located near the heating area. At Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the two rooms were positioned several meters from the main competition zone. Meanwhile, anti-doping measures are swinging in the tournament, which has attracted about 1,500 athletes. Nearly 35 Dope Control Officers (DCOS) from the National Anti-Doping Agency (Tone) are on site to collect samples. With the National Dope Test Lab (NDTL) in Delhi recognized by WADA, the sample can be processed domestically.

“Because India is the host country, but it is natural that the DCO organized by tone will take drug samples,” said an official. Although the incident caused concerns on the first day, the organizers moved quickly to provide medical support, ensuring that the coach was out of danger. The competition schedule continues as planned.
