World Health Organization (Who) have sought clarification on death caused due to the consumption of Kylhoste syrup. The UN Health Board said that the country had a “regulatory gap” when screening locally sold syrup medicine, Reuters reported.The children died in India in the last month after consuming cough medicine containing toxic dietylene glycol in many 500 times the permitted limit, says officials. The deaths were all linked to the Coldrif medicine, forbidden after a test confirmed the presence of the chemical on October 2.Respreesh and Relife Syrup also contain dietylene glycol, according to a public warning of Gujarat and other states on Wednesday that described it as “a toxic chemical that can cause serious poisoning, including kidney failure, neurological complications and even death, especially among children”.
