Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted RAID in several locations linked to Malayalam players Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran In a larger incident linked to the Bhutan car’s smuggling.As reported by Manorama Online, the searches, which started early Wednesday (October 8), included three of Dulquers’ homes and homes to actor Amit Chakkalackal, foreign businessman Vijeesh Varghese and several car dealers. Reports say the operation stretched across districts including Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode and Chennai.
Illegal import of luxury cars
According to the reports, the officials revealed that the attacks follow a customs investigation of illegal imports of luxury cars to India through Bhutan and Nepal rippers. High-end vehicles such as land cruisers and defenders were allegedly used to use forged documents and were later sold to buyers, including movie celebrities, at reduced prices.
Supreme Court’s observation of Dulquers seized vehicles
The development comes one day after the Kerala High Court led the customs department to re -examine Dulquer Salmaan’s seized Land Rover defender. The court instructed that if valid documents are submitted, the customs should decide on the case within a week. It also questioned why preliminary requests were not carried out before the vehicles were confiscated.
Fema violations and Hawala transactions under radar
According to the reports, Raids was launched according to the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FECT), citing possible violations of sections 3, 4 and 8. Preliminary results indicate that a Coimbator-based network created fake RTO registrations. These registrations were in states such as Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh to legitimize the smuggled vehicles.ED suspects that illegal currency transfers and Hawala payments were used to finance these transactions.
