Known for having spoken their mind about film, the film industry and his personal life, Mahesh Bhatt recently shared a traumatic incident from his childhood during a performance on Pooja Bhatt Show, hosted by her daughter Pooja Bhatt. The filmmaker revealed how four young men attacked him while verbally attacked their mother and left a lasting scar on their psyche.Mahesh, son of filmmaker Nanabhai Bhatt and Shirin Mohammad Ali, reminded them to go home one evening when the incident occurred. “Suddenly four older boys laid me. They grabbed me violently and pressed me against the wall. I panicked, and from the depth of my heart rose a cry that asked the gods to save me. But the gods were indifferent; they remained silent,” he said. “It took me years to understand that liberators do not exist; one must free yourself.“
‘Pull down his pants’
The situation escalated quickly, Mahesh said. “” Let me go home, “I asked and tried to break out of the threatening circle that these brutes had formed around me. I hoped for the hope that some passers would intervene and save me from these bullys. But ordinary life floated off, untouched on my anxiety.“” Pull down their pants, “said one of them. Even before the boy could be tricked forward, I began to pray and shoot back my hands. I shouted,” Why are you doing this to me? “” The men then threw abuse about their mother’s background and questioned his identity. “They said,” We want to see if you are one of us. Isn’t your mother your father’s mistress?! She is a Muslim as **, and she used to dance in cheap movies. So why is your name Mahesh? “” Overwhelmed by grief, said Mahesh that he cried bitterly.When he warned them to report the assault to his father, the men laughed. “Tell me, where is he now? In your house? Tell the truth and we will release you,” they said. This issue that was dug into the shooting wound his family had been hidden for several years. Mahesh called courage and told the truth about his father who lived somewhere else, which finally led them to release him.“I stumbled and said weakly: ‘I swear he lives with us. He has gone for outdoor shooting.’ But my words lacked conviction. And then snapped in me. When I looked at them in my eye, I said audiously: ‘My father doesn’t live with us. He lives with his wife and my other mother in Andheri. “Oddly enough, the air changed, and the bearded boy relieved the grip over me and signaled me to go,” he recalled.
A scar that changed family dynamics
Although the incident ended without physical injury, Mahesh said it left a permanent emotional scar. He revealed that his mother and siblings felt betrayed by his openness about the family’s secret, which led to strained relationships. “She closed me emotionally from her life,” he said. Mahesh Bhatt, as his father, has had several partners over the years. He was married to Lorraine Bright, had a relationship with Parveen Babiand later got married Soni Razdanwith whom he has two children, including national award -winning actor Alia Bhatt. Pooja Bhatt is his daughter from his marriage to Lorraine.
