Ishaan Khatter was literally “on cloud nine” when he got the news that his latest movie Homebound chose as India’s official entry to Oscar This year. The actor revealed that he was on a flight back from New York when the announcement came through.“I was in an airplane and had Wi-Fi on the flight, which continued to come and go. And then for one to two hours it was a decay of Wi-Fi. And finally, when the connection came back, my phone started to blast and I started getting all these calls from random people,” recalled Ishaan in an exclusive conversation with Etimer.
The actor said he was surprised by the listed by calls, including from the film director Neeraj GhaywanWho had a rather unique way to break the news to him. “For the first time in two years, Neeraj gave me Galeys (cussing me). I told him that I was on flight and what had happened and that was when I realized that we finally made the post. “Khatter, who had flown with the team of HomeBound to the Toronto International Film Festival, had then had a translation in New York for some work and it was on his return trip that he learned about the Oscar selection. “It was when I came back from New York after the Toronto Film Festival and did some work and meetings in New York. I realized that I would come back for the publication, it was a big victory for us because the film finally met the theaters and we got our censorship certificate. So the last thing I thought of Oscar. In fact, none of us awaited the announcement, it came as a surprise. So I was literally at Cloud Nine when it happened. “Homebound is supported by Karan Johar And also features Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor is based on Basharat Peer’s column from the New York Times.
